Yuri’s Campervan Adventure from Dublin to the Cliffs of Moher

We recently had a visit from Italian photographer Yuri Rossi. Cookies Campers were delighted to host him in our large campervan the VW Grand California. We would like to share Yuri’s trip as it really took in the best of Ireland North and South. Armed with his camera and a sense of wanderlust, Yuri embarked on an epic road trip, weaving through the enchanting landscapes and historic landmarks of the Emerald Isle. Join us as we follow Yuri’s journey, highlighting key destinations, and adding  stops for food and drink along the way.

Setting Off from Dublin:

Yuri’s journey began at Cookies Campervan office in Rathcoole, Dublin. We are a short 30-minute drive from Dublin airport. Opting for campervan rental in Dublin provides the freedom to explore at your own pace.  Ensuring that every scenic stop and hidden gem can be savored to the fullest.

Dark Hedges:

Located in Northern Ireland, the Dark Hedges captivate with their ethereal beauty. This road has been made famous by Game of Thrones where it featured as the Kings Road. As travelers wander beneath the intertwining branches of ancient beech trees, they can capture the mystical ambiance that has made this avenue a beloved destination for travelers. While some of the trees have fallen during the recent winter, this is still a really good place to visit. There is speculation that this road may be closed in the future due to issues with trees falling, so visit now while you can.

Dunseverick Castle:

Continuing northward, Dunseverick Castle awaits, perched dramatically atop rugged cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. With a campervan facilitating the journey, travelers can venture off the beaten path and discover the haunting allure of this ancient fortress. After exploring the castle ruins, stop at a cozy seaside pub for a bowl of hearty seafood chowder paired with a pint of locally brewed ale, soaking in the warmth of Irish hospitality.

Benone Beach:

Along the northern coast, Benone Beach offers a pristine stretch of golden sand framed by azure waters. Enjoy leisurely strolls along the shoreline, capturing moments of tranquility that embody the essence of an Irish coastal escape. Campervans can drive onto this beach so why not make breakfast or lunch on the beach. Be sure to keep an eye on high tide and park close to the road, the sea can come in quickly!

Downpatrick Head:

Heading westward, Downpatrick Head beckons, where towering cliffs plunge dramatically into the Atlantic waves. Thanks to campervan rental in Dublin, travelers can venture off the beaten path and witness the raw beauty of Ireland’s western coastline. After exploring the headland, stop at a charming village cafe for a slice of homemade apple pie accompanied by a steaming cup of Irish coffee, finding solace in the warmth of familiar flavors amidst the wild beauty of the Irish countryside.

Classiebawn Castle:

Nestled amidst the scenic splendor of County Sligo, Classiebawn Castle stands as a testament to Ireland’s rich architectural heritage. With a campervan serving as a mobile basecamp, explore the grounds of this historic estate, capturing the timeless elegance of its turrets and towers against a backdrop of rolling hills and azure skies. After a day of exploring, return to your campervan for a relaxing night it with some home cooked food and maybe some local Guinness. All campervans have fridges to ensure your food and drink stay nice and cool.

Cliffs of Moher:

No Irish road trip would be complete without a visit to the iconic Cliffs of Moher. Towering majestically above the Atlantic coast, these ancient cliffs provide a breathtaking panorama that showcases the raw power and beauty of Ireland’s natural landscape. After exploring the cliffs, stop at a quaint coastal village pub, where you can mingle with locals over pints of creamy stout, sharing stories and laughter.
